Enterprise Mobility and Printing: The Workforce of the Future
With trends such as mobility, flexibility, remote, and cloud attracting a great amount of attention in the technology world, the new generation of millennial employees is rapidly transforming the workforce into a mobile-based, agile workforce.
A recent study carried out by the International Data Corporation suggests that by 2020, over seventy percent of the American workforce will be made up of mobile workers.
With smartphone and tablet prices gradually decreasing over time since their initial advent, along with enterprises around the world increasingly adopting bring your own device environments, these changes have set the stage for a completely enterprise mobile work environment.
Benefits of Increased Employee Mobility
The recent uptake of enterprise mobile technology in corporate settings has led to a significant rise in employee productivity, efficiency, and interestingly enough, employee-satisfaction!
With employees able to work on the go, whether it be carrying out tasks while taking the public transit to work, on using their favourite Office 365 productivity tools directly from their smartphones when away from the desk, workers who are adopting mobility are yielding higher output, and achieving all their tasks without any setbacks.
Ultimately, organizations want to see employees contributing efficiently to help their employers reach corporate goals and objectives, both short and long term, and mobile technologies have certainly helped with this!
With all the positives stemming from the adoption of enterprise mobility, one has to wonder, what is the future of printing in the enterprise environment, if everything and everyone is going mobile?

Mobile Workforce and Printing
Although enterprise mobility and mobile devices will be a driving force behind digital transformation and moving away from paper-based processes, millennial leaders do not seem to be inclined towards eliminating print from the picture.
In fact, a recent survey conducted by Quocirca pointed to more than fifty percent of participating millennial leaders in the IT and Business world being of the belief that workplace print volumes would be on the rise over the next several years, and nearly seventy percent indicating that documents of high level significance should be printed, rather than merely stored digitally.
With that being said, the future of printing in the workplace will revolve around efficient mobile printing, with successful stakeholders in the print industry being those providing error-free, versatile, secure, and workflow-optimizing mobile print solutions!
Nearly fifty percent of millennials surveyed in the Quocirca study ranked mobile printing as the second most important item on their agenda.
Going Forward
Taking this into account, Managed Print Service providers will need to invest heavily in developing mobile print solutions that cater to the needs of the modern workplace, placing great emphasis on security and compatibility.
Print industry players will also need to focus on developing systems that offer efficient paper to digital document conversion, with this being a high-ranking priority for enterprises going into the future.
Millennial leaders should be highly inclined towards adopting a solution that enables their workers to securely print any document from any of their mobile devices, and ideally from anywhere!
