Now available: New UniPrint Version 7.0
Enhanced printer driver, new central admin console, central licensing, and PIN protected security improve printing quality, speed, manageability and security in network environments
Toronto, Ontario, Canada, March 9, 2010 – UniPrint (www.uniprint.net), the innovative leader in printing virtualization for server-centric environments, today launched UniPrint Version 7.0. Incorporating an enhanced printer driver, UniPrint Version 7.0 significantly improves overall printing quality, speed, manageability and security for Windows and Mac users working in a 32- or 64-bit physical or virtual desktop environment
Introducing a completely redesigned central management console, UniPrint Version 7.0 makes it easier than ever before to manage every aspect of printing in any network environment. This includes centralizing the time-consuming task of managing server licenses – a feature particularly important in virtualized environments where licensing is complicated by the fact that servers go online and offline on demand. With the new management console, system administrators can utilize any machine that has a UniPrint component installed to apply a single license file on the designated license server, and also monitor license usage in real time from any remote location.
“Recognized as an innovative leader in network printing for eliminating the two major obstacles – printer driver incompatibility and bandwidth consumption – UniPrint now launches UniPrint Version 7.0 to further enhance printing speed, quality and security for any enterprise computing environment,” explained Arron Fu, Vice President, Software Development at UniPrint. “We believe the printing experience should be exactly the same whether a Windows or Mac user is working on a fat or thin client from the office, a customer’s boardroom, at home, or any other location,” Fu continued. “And that includes increasingly-common virtual networks where our new central licensing significantly simplifies printing management in an environment where it is greatly complicated by the fact that servers ‘pop up and down’ on demand.”
UniPrint Version 7.0 also introduces a number of new features that make printing simpler and faster for the user. This includes a unique Printer Profiler tool which allows system administrators to create printer profiles with different combinations of advanced printer functionality enabled according to users’ specific printing requirements. This makes it easy for the user to activate multiple features, such as stapling, hole punching, binding, and other printer-specific features, by selecting the predefined profile.
Built around a Portable Document Format (PDF)-based universal printer driver, UniPrint removes the need to install multiple manufacturer printer drivers, thereby eliminating all printer driver incompatibility issues on terminal servers. By converting print data into PDF files, print documents are compressed by over 90 percent. UniPrint Version 7.0 urther enhances the portability of PDF through daily font replication and on-demand font caching between terminal server and network print server, ultimately delivering faster printing speed and better print job quality.
To address the increasing security requirements for printing confidential data demanded by many organizations, UniPrint Version 7.0 supports the secure printing feature on major brand-name printers. UniPrint’s all-new secure printing capability provides users the option to withhold print jobs from releasing for printing until they enter their PIN code at the physical printer.
Optimized for Citrix XenApp (formerly MetaFrame/Presentation Servers), Microsoft Remote Desktop Services (Terminal Services), Citrix XenDesktop, VMware View VDI, and Microsoft Desktop Virtualization environments, UniPrint Version 7.0 server components support Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2003 while VDI component supports Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP. UniPrint Version 7.0 now also provides MAC Client support that enables transfer of print job without enabling drive mapping.
